Enrichment Activities
Clubs
The department runs a Games Club for lower school pupils and every two years runs a more able trip for our gifted mathematicians to Paris.
Warwick Castle
We take all of our Year 7 pupils on a visit to Warwick Castle
with the Humanities Department, to do some mathematics
based around the theme of castles. There are also many
other events that take place both at school and off site that
are mathematically based.
BP Challenge Day
Year 9 entered a BP Challenge Day where they worked as a group buying and selling 'virtual oil' and the group which made the most profit was the winner.
Space Project
All year 9 pupils have completed a project linked to space. As an introduction to this project they have visited the National Space Centre in Leicester to collect facts and information to be used in lessons.
Maths Enterprise Day
Year 8 took part in a Maths Enterprise Day where they worked in teams to create 2D and 3D shapes which they then traded in for tokens. The winning group was the one with the most tokens.
Maths Workshops
At Key Stage 4 a Maths workshop is held prior to the mocks, where pupils can get help and hopefully get problems sorted out. This is in addition to the extra lessons put on by members of the department after the February half term.
ICT
The use of ICT and the Internet is encouraged for research and data collection with all of our groups.
The department has six specialist classrooms, two furnished with computer equipment and all six classrooms having either interactive whiteboards or data projectors.
