So what's Melbourne College all about?
The origins of Melbourne College goes back to the 19th century. It was founded by Rev. William Quick on June 16th, 1887 on the piece of land granted by the Victorian Government to the Methodist Church. The College opened its doors on March 14th, 1888 with 18 students. Its first Master was the remarkable English clergyman Dr Edward H. Sugden, who remained in office for forty years (1888-1928). By the end of his Mastership, Queen’s had become the College that is still recognizable today.
If you are situated in Melbourne College, here's what you need to know:
Assemblies take place on Tuesdays & Thursdays after lunch break. On Tuesdays you line outside the gym, on Thursdays you line up outside the hall. You are expected to be in your Form College, lined up quietly ready to enter the relevant area of your assembly. Uniform checks are carried out frequently, as all uniform must be immaculate.
Our college colour is Gold - being based on the fact that Melbourne is in Australia and the Australian teams play in Green & Gold. The college badge was designed by Jonny Crick, who won the competition to design the college badge when the college started in 2008.
