Peer Councillors

At Clayton Hall we have a well established Peer Counselling team.  A fully trained team of 16 counsellors are on hand to chat and give advice to all pupils who need someone to talk to but feel they cannot discuss their problems with a parent or teacher.  Each counsellor is asked to sign a confidentiality contract to ensure that personal information is not passed on.  Only when a pupil is at risk do counsellors inform their team leader Mrs Hulme.

Year 10 pupils are invited to apply for the position as Peer Counsellor.  Each application is considered by the current team to compile a short list.  The chosen applicants are invited to an interview.  The successful pupils then take part in two days of training covering a wide range of skills needed to become an effective counsellor including listening skills, reading body language and strategies on offering help and advice to pupils.

Counsellors play an important part in life at Clayton Hall and they have a positive effect on the moral of pupils.  They offer another point of contact for pupils to discuss their problems and issues, from friendship problems or homework to more serious problems.

The counselling room, which is situated behind the craft block, is open Tuesday to Friday from 1.10 - 1.50 (lunchtimes) at which time 2 fully trained counsellors will be on duty waiting for any visits by pupils to discuss problems they may come up against during their school life.
