Religious Education

The Religious Education (RE) Department at Clayton consists of three members of staff. All pupils at Key Stage Three are taught RE; at Key Stage Four all pupils take Short Course GCSE RE currently World Religions (OCR).

In RE all pupils are encouraged to challenge their own ideas and concepts and to share those ideas with others. This will enable pupils to have an insight into the lives of others whom they may meet in the future. The department does not promote any specific religious standpoint but does seek to respect many of the traditions the pupils are brought up with.

The purpose and nature of the syllabus for RE is not determined wholly by the school. Clayton follows the guidelines of Staffordshire County Council that are agreed by the local religious communities, county councillors and members of the teaching profession. Therefore the principle aim of the RE Department at Clayton is to help pupils to understand the nature of religious belief and practices and the importance and influence on believers' lives. However, pupils are also expected and encouraged to think for themselves and to evaluate the reasons for or against particular interpretations of life.
